At Greenway Farms, we raise a carefully selected strain of tilapia known for its mild flavor, firm texture, and versatility in the kitchen. One of the most widely enjoyed fish in the world, tilapia cooks easily and pairs well with a wide variety of dishes. Our fish are raised on ASC-certified sustainable fish feed and without the use of antibiotics. Instead, we rely on clean water, careful system management, and healthy growing conditions to produce high-quality fish for our community.

The tilapia we raise traces its heritage back to the Nile River in Egypt. Over many years, aquaculture researchers identified fish with exceptional growth, resilience, and consistency, forming the foundation of modern breeding programs. Among these fish, a rare natural color variant known as the “Pearl” occasionally appeared. In nature, pearl-colored fish rarely survive because their bright appearance attracts predators, but through careful aquaculture breeding these unique genetics have been preserved.

Our fish are raised in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), a modern method that allows us to closely monitor water quality and fish health while using water responsibly. They are fed sustainably produced feed from a local mill that follows standards aligned with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), supporting responsible aquaculture practices.

Much of the tilapia sold in the United States is imported and often travels long distances before reaching consumers. Because our fish are raised locally at our farm in Gaithersburg, Maryland, we are able to provide fresher seafood and greater transparency about how it is produced.
